We’re going on a giant summer tour with our old friends Ben Folds Five and Barenaked Ladies in June and July. We’re calling it “The Last Summer On Earth” and there will be nearly 30 shows with this lineup across the US and Canada — this is in addition to our already announced June shows with Dispatch in Chicago, Boston, and Berkeley CA.

But before we show you the big list of tour dates, a humble thanks to those who kept us on the front page of reddit.com for a couple of days last week, in a thread that had no purpose other than to show Guster some love, out of nowhere. It was inspiring to read over 500 (mostly positive) comments on a website that the members of this band regularly visit. And special thanks to user “420vegetarianfatcock” for getting the ball rolling. I think we have our next album name.

Here are those dates, and below them, how to get tickets. It’s going to be a fun summer and as the tour title suggests, the last one where we are on Earth.

What a great time we had on our acoustic tour, thanks for the love and thanks for the requests. You can read about one very special stage moment from Atlanta here if you missed it. Brian has been posting iPhone photos from the road at larj.com/guster — and now that we’re off the road until June, it’s sure to get filled up with adorable pictures of his twins. And their diapers.

When June rolls around, we’re pleased to announce three outdoor shows with Dispatch in Chicago, Boston, and Berkeley CA. Dispatch is a band that it seems like we should have played with before, but June 1st will actually be our first show together. A live album. It’s called Guster: Live Acoustic and it’s got 16 tracks from our acoustic tour earlier this year. Check out the video promo we made while sitting in carefully-spaced seats at the Tarrytown Theater last spring. The album comes out January 8th on your iTunes-style web stores, but you can pre-order one of only 2000 actual, physical copies now for $10. These are handmade on letter press by Union Press in Somerville MA, and printed on 100% recycled paper. And yes, Ryan Miller drew the kitty on the cover. Back in the day when major labels created television commercials for our albums, we could reach people very easily, say, while they were watching the Superbowl. Nowadays, it’s word of mouth. So please spread the word on Facebook and talk about Live Acoustic with your actual mouth. It’s an album we’re very proud of with songs that date from 1996 to 2010. And yes, one day there will be more studio material from us.

Just when you thought The Gusters were going to hibernate for the winter, BANG! Out from our caves we wander, crusty-eyed, hungry, ready to claw salmon to death.

It’s our first ever Acoustic Tour.

We’re playing stripped down acoustic sets with a small string section in intimate theaters on both coasts (and many places in-between). Expect deep set lists with b-sides, unique arrangements, and general unpredictability.

Jeff Garlin of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is on the bill for many of the shows performing stand-up comedy before us, perhaps singing songs with us, who knows.

This is the first time we’ve attempted anything like this, with comedy, and cellos, and a seated audience. There might be a little Q&A. Get tickets early because the venues are small!
