i don't like "You Say France & I Say Whistle". I think it should be called "All the Guster You Can Muster".

I think it should be called whatever the guys think it should be called. Besides, in my opinion anyway, the album title is probably one of the least important parts of the album.

I disagree. In a society of judging a book by its cover, cd artwork and cd title can be influential in a new listener's decision to purchase an album on the fly, as illogical as it may seem. I think those aspects often get underrated. Obviously the music is really important, but IMO, the packaging is something bands really shouldn't overlook.
Rediculously long titles I think can stunt an album's success, as people don't want to have to deal with the hassle of saying a mouthful, radio station djs would probably rather play something they can say without getting tongue tied...etc. Short titles are to the point and can create buzz/energy as they pop off the tongue while long titles tend to drag and somewhat remove the energy. Now good music will trump all that, but why make it harder on yourself to have to produce better music just to overcome something like that? Exceptions? Absolutely, but take a look at top 100 lists and such and see how many have titles greater than 4 words and how many have 4 or less. Rolling Stone's top 100 (from their top 500 special...sorry I didn't go through the entire 500, my access cut off at 100) have ~80 with 4 or less and less than 20 with more than 4 words.
Billboard top 100: >75 4 or less, <15 greater than 4.
(And yes I will admit the amount of albums with 2 words titles is probably larger than albums with 8 which would likely skew the data greatly, but it could be a chicken and the egg thing, where record companies have realized shorter titles work better and want new albums to have fairly short titles)

Come Downstairs and Say Hello was rejected as an album name by the boys because it was too long. Therefore, I'm thinkin', You Say France and I Whistle will go the way of Bitch Magic. It's probably gonna be less that four words, based on previous releases:
Parachute - One Word
Goldfly - One Word
Lost and Gone Forever - Four Words
Keep it Together - Three Words
Guster on Ice - Three Words
Average is about 2 an'na half words.

Actually, it was rejected in the US as being too long. So you're both right.
I think the new album should be titled "Guster - Now with an extra 6 months of waiting!"

Do you actually have any idea what you're talking about, or do you just like to make long posts to impress yourself? If a song is catchy, it will be played, and people will buy it. Though books may be judged by their covers in our society, music is judged by its sound.

man, I just wasn't sure I could type for that long. You figured me out, it WAS to impress myself with my typing ability. Additionally, I had such low self esteem that I really just wanted to impress a bunch of people on a Guster message board.
"Judging a book by it's cover" is a common reference and is applicable to more than just books.
I'm just saying, on a subconscious level, long titles tend to work against an album. You're free to disagree.
I'm thinking of a title for my new band's next album... perhaps you can help me out by telling me which do you think is better:
long version (>4 words): "Angoodkind, quit busting my balls"
or short version (<= 4 words): "Bite Me"?

i was at a recent guster concert, and for some reason i get stuck behing a rather larger lady. This was just fine for me cuz i could see right over her. the shitty-ness started once the boys rolled onto stage. for some reason this lady thought she came to a techno/hard-core rap concert instead of a guster concert because once them boys started playing, this girl started gettting her grind on. everyone else was singing and rocking softly back and for, this lady was ridiculously grinding on me and everyone around her. i like guster as much as the next person, but guster isn't really the type of music i could grind/mosh to. no worries though, because she gave me a great new idea for the upcoming album:
1st, somehow get lil' john to produce the album
2nd, entitle it, "Don't Just Stand There, Gust-A Move - The Dance Album."
3rd, change around some of the track names:
Amsterdam will now be: i smoked too much pot and had an unhealty amount of sex, in Amsterdam
Airport Song will be: You'll be selling ho's at the Airport
Happy Frappy will be: I'll show you Happy Frappy, bitch
Rainy Day will be: I got shot 9 times, on a Rainy Day
Either way will be: Ima steal your wife, Either Way, bitch
hey...just an idea...guster could use a black guy anyway...
