fast forward to 2007. with no shortage of great music blogs, the path is well paved by dudes who post songs and write about new music. this is my somewhat feeble attempt to be another one of those dudes. perhaps this space will also tie into the tour we're doing and, shit, maybe i'll even go off on some of the tasty treats i find on the road, http://www.powells.com/biblio/66-9781905490097-1 (take that franz!!). for the time being, i'm gonna try and use rhapsody.com as a way to link to the songs because it's legit and the bands get paid and it's free for you guys even if you're not subscribers. this is all a work in progress so we'll tweak it as we go along in hopes that it's a minimal pain in the ass to listen to the songs. speaking of......
scenic world (version)- beirut. from the lon gisland ep.
i was pretty into the full length debut from this guy and this song, scenic world, was one of my favorites. for some reason this version off the recent ep really grabbed me. maybe it's the magnetic fields-ness or the organ(?) that sounds like it came from a daniel johnston record. and don't say "because there's hand drums on it." we all know guster hates hand drums.
plasticities - andrew bird. armchair apocrypha.
fan fan fan. i'm still feeling my way around this album but this one grabbed me right away. i love when the guitar follows the vocal melody in the chorus. i'm a sucker for that trick.
and introducing a new feature on everybody knows: catch o' the day. i basically just stole this from the onion - shuffle the itunes and see what comes up, no cheating. today's winner is....
no satisfaction - black mountain. from the album black mountain.
what joy! if catch o' the day works out this well every time, i'll be a millionaire made of nickels. so get your vu on and check out the pink mountaintops while you're at it, stoners.
