Did you see, there are proper Milwaukee and Minneapolis shows. And a Halloween show in Nebraska. And a triumphant return to Salt Lake City. And at long last, our Greencastle Indiana debut! These are old-fashioned Guster headlining rock concerts, and a handful of them are going on sale today. Check the big list below for details.
We're also playing Las Vegas NV at the Vegoose Festival on October 29th. It's a two-day Halloween-themed rock concert featuring Tom Petty, Ben Folds, Fiona Apple, and "much much more." Check out the full line-up at www.vegoose.com/2006
It's not unlike the Austin City Limits Festival we're playing on September 15th, before we head out to the West Coast with Nada Surf where will we make sweet music together and abuse bold face type until the wee hours of the night.
That's it. Tune in next week when Guster meets Curb Your Enthusiasm. No kidding.
g
Everybody loves Ray LaMontagne! But he's dropping off the tour in September, due to "unforeseen conflicts in his schedule." Here's the official word from his camp:
Ray LaMontagne regretfully has to cancel his participation in the second leg of his co-headlining tour with Guster due to unforeseen conflicts in his schedule. There are also a few midwest dates that are affected during the first leg. He enjoyed the first leg with Guster and is disappointed he can't continue at this time but is looking forward to returning to the road soon.
It's too bad, since the shows so far have really been great and we've been flattered to be on the same stage with someone as talented as Ray. More bad news: The shows in Cleveland, Columbus, and Pittsburgh have been cancelled (8/4, 8/5, 8/6). Full refunds are available from the point of purchase, and we hope to make it up to Ohio on our next tour. Kettering and Toledo are still on though! Bring your cornhole bags!
AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS:
Nada Surf are taking Ray's place as opener, along with Tristan Prettyman, for the second leg beginning in mid-September. Everybody loves Nada Surf! Most ticket prices have been adjusted to reflect Ray's departure (meaning, they're cheaper now), and some venues have been switched as a result too. Here are some recent developments in our touring world:
INDIANAPOLIS (July 29th) -- Special acoustic in-store at Luna Music at 1:30pm. INFO: www.lunamusic.net
TOLEDO (August 8th) -- Show will be Guster & Rogue Wave, without Ray LaMontagne.
DALLAS (September 14th) -- Show has been moved to the Gypsy Tea Room. Tickets on sale real soon.
AUSTIN (September 15th) -- Special late-nite show at La Zona Rosa with Gomez. TICKETS: www.frontgatetickets.com
LOS ANGELES (Sept 29th) -- It's now a one-night stand at the Wiltern. September 28th show has been cancelled.
SEATTLE (October 3rd) -- Note the new date and venue... October 3rd at the Moore Theater.
Much love

We want to let you know that the fifth and final episode of Joe's Place is now streaming on our website. It's the saddest episode, but no one dies in the end... be sure to watch all the way until the end of the credits. Thanks to Dave Yonkman (er... D.F. Yonkman) for hours and hours of sweat putting that together and dealing with our label's lawyers.
Down here! Here I am! Still promoting things. This Friday we'll be on one of our favourite radio programs, "Morning Becomes Eclectic" on KCRW in Los Angeles. Tune it at 11am or catch it streaming on the worldwide web at http://www.kcrw.com/show/mb -- and later this Friday we're taping an NPR show called "Day to Day" ... stay tuned for airing information.
We're getting bored of the photos on our website! If you have any that you think are front page-worthy, upload them to a free hosting service and send the link to us at guster@guster.com -- We'll pick the best ones and feature them on the front of guster.com
REVERB will be joining us this summer to keep up the green work when we're on the road. Also, our friends at Rock for a Remedy, Inc. announce the first two food drives of the tour: Prospect Park in Brooklyn and The Chevrolet Theatre in Wallingford. Non-perishable, non-glass food will be accepted on site to benefit local community food shelves. This time, we'll be taking cash donations too. One dollar allows a Food Bank to purchase five pounds of food! Each person who donates 10 items or more (or $2 plus) will be entered into a raffle: One lucky donor and a guest will win an after-show meet & greet with Guster! Stay tuned for more dates with food drives

My anti-climactic genius was lost on some people at our record label, who still haven't forgiven me (like, they think some people here *never* found out about Keep It Together because they only skim the subjects or something). In any event, at the risk of alienating the good people of Reprise Records just a little bit more, I am accepting your suggestions for what to put in the subject next week when "Ganging Up on the Sun" comes out. Bring them on, the suggestions. If yours gets used, I will give you guest list spots.
=-=-=-=-
There are some interesting promotional events going on for us, in honor of Release Week being here -- events as boring to most of you as an album listening party in Florida, and as exciting to most of us as singing the national anthem at Fenway Park.
There are also a few live performances at record stores coming up (Philly, Boston, Portland, Seattle, etc), so check this link to see if our "interesting promotional events tour" comes to you over the next couple of weeks: www.guster.com/events
=-=-=-=-
If you like our band, then check out the E-town broadcast schedule at www.etown.org -- our interview and acoustic performance that we recorded in Boulder CO in the spring is airing this week on the show (NPR-affiliated radio stations). And while we're on the subject of Colorado, no, we're not playing Red Rocks with David Gray. Ticketmaster fucked that up.

Until next week.

• Our album comes out two weeks from today! But they tell me Rhapsody has the whole thing streaming online as of this morning, so go listen to it! It's free. Pass it around to friends if you will, to help us get the word out. Here's the link: http://play.rhapsody.com/guster/ganginguponthesun
• Also, we have five songs from the album, along with our video for "One Man Wrecking Machine" and the Joe's Place episodes all in one neat online player now: http://www.warnerbrosrecords.com/gusterplayer/
• Joe's Place Episode 4 is being held up by our new best friends, The Warner Brothers Legal Department. Seriously, it should go up any day now. I was eating a chicken carcass in episode 3, by the way, not a "porcupine" as someone suggested in an email. If it had been a porcupine, the Warner Brothers Legal Department would have made us edit it out
• We're playing the Jay Leno TV Program and also the Craig Ferguson TV Program late in June. It's like three weeks away. Watch us, see if we screw up! You only get one take! And now we have some new tour dates to tell you about.....
PROVIDENCE CD-RELEASE SHOW JUNE 22
Rhode Island gets the big cd release show this time! It's going to happen in Station Park, downtown, on the 22nd of June. It's only ten bucks through WBRU! But for twenty bucks you get a cd too, and we'll sign it after the show. How is this possible! www.guster.com has all the details. Look for it under "tour dates"...
BLOCK PARTY IN MINNEAPOLIS JULY 7
We still play block parties! Apparently everyone in Minnesota already knows about this event, but you can get tickets after any Basilica Mass, at any metro area Borders Books, or by calling (612)-317-3511. They have a website too, and it's a dot org. www.basilicablockparty.org
GUSTER AT THE AUSTIN CITY LIMITS FESTIVAL SEPT 15
This one's a long way away, but we're kicking off the western leg of the tour with Ray LaMontagne by playing this festival and then wishing we could stick around and see all the other bands. You know what, at this point I may as well just list the entire summer tour as we know it. It will turn this little 2K email into a mega 7K email but sometimes you just have to cut and paste.

Are there any questions?
g
Although we pretty much got out of the way while an amazing animator did his thing. You have to watch this. I can't believe this is our video and not some other band's video. Especially after the huge debacle that was The Making of Fa Fa. Anyway, we now have a temporary splash page up at www.guster.com so you have no choice but to find the link to the "One Man Wrecking Machine" video, but if you'd like to see it right this second, try this:
www.guster.com/splash060518/video.html
We can all watch it while we wait for Episode 3 of Joe's Place to get released from the frightened hands of the Warner Bros Legal Department. You say the word "Comcast" just ten times in ten minutes and suddenly everyone's freaking out...
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS
We need to find some people to join our "street team" to help us advertise local shows and check stores to make sure our new album is in stock, etc... are we really calling this a "street team," Dalton? It's a dorky name, but our only other idea, "The Guster Wrecking Machines" is equally dumb. One of those (dumb) names will stick. In any event, we're offering a free download of an unreleased song from the new record in exchange for signing up. It's called "Empire State" and it's sad and poignant and beautiful, so sad and poignant and beautiful that it feels awkward aligning it with a "street team" promotional idea, but what the heck. All you really do when you sign up is join a list where we email you about helping us flyer now and then. Worth it. Totally worth it. Enlist yourself here:
http://streetteams.nettwerk.com/gusterstreetteam/signup.jsp
WE RELEASED SOMETHING
An E.P. specifically for independent record stores. It's good to support independent record stores. Those of you who want to check out more of the new album before it's released on June 20th can pick up the limited edition One Man Wrecking Machine EP that's being sold exclusively in independent record stores beginning May 23rd. We put "Ruby Falls," the album's seven minute piece de resistance, on there along with some random rare nuggets. Here's the track listing:
1. One Man Wrecking Machine (from Ganging Up on the Sun)
2. Days (Kinks cover)
3. Ruby Falls (from Ganging Up on the Sun)
4. Two at a Time (demo version)
5. Good Feeling (Violent Femmes cover, live w/ Gordon Gano on violin)

Um. Tickets to a bunch of our summer shows are now on sale via Music Today Pre-Sale. Specifically, if you live near one of these cities:
.. those shows are now on sale through our Music Today Pre-Sales. And our Brooklyn NY and Holmdel NJ shows are on sale now through Ticketmaster. You know, they moved the CT date and added a new VA date too, and this is feeling a little tedious, so I'm just gonna list the whole (updated) tour again with all the ticketing information below.

THE ANSWER WAS PETER FRAMPTON:
For those of you who didn't figure out who we're playing with at the 6th Annual Jammy's in New York based on the hints "talk box" and "are you feeling me" -- it's legendary guitarist and singer Peter Frampton. We're playing "Do You Feel Like I Do" together for thirteen psychedelic minutes at the Madison Square Garden theater on April 20th. More information here:
CHECK OUT OUR UPCOMING OPENERS:
Andrew Bird opens the shows next week in the midwest, and Luke Temple joins us for the upstate NY run after that. These guys and their albums come highly recommended from the Gusters.
HIRO BALLROOM SHOW IN NYC IS APRIL 21, NOT 19:
I screwed that up last time but the show sold out real fast, so if you got tickets make sure you note the correct date. Sorry. I play drums and sometimes give misinformation in Guster. And for those of you who are tired of being turned away from our New York shows, stay tuned because there's a big summer announcement coming in the next emailer.
THERE'S A LAST MINUTE CHICAGO SHOW:
It's Monday night (April 10th) at the Cubby Bear, but you have to win the tickets from WXRT in Chicago. First, register to be a "VIP" here: www.93xrt.com -- then sign in and try to win the Guster tickets. Oh, it's a 21+ show and the last day to enter is Friday April 7th. Sorry, we're slow. Me drums. etc.
JOE'S PLACE IS STILL IN PROMO-MODE:
But oh what promos they are! Visit www.guster.com/joesplace to watch. The real episodes will kick in in another week or two.
CAMPUS CONSCIOUSNESS FEVER IS RUNNING WILD!
Auctions:
- Win a pair of tickets and meet and greets to the sold-out Hiro Ballroom show 4/21.
- Bid on an Alvarez acoustic guitar signed by Guster.

City Year Community Service Projects:
The City Year Concert Corps works to build national service by connecting touring artists and their fans with local volunteer projects and City Year, a 10-month AmeriCorps program at 17 flagship sites across the country. Come participate in these projects and feel good helping out the community you live in. Check http://cityyearconcertcorps.org/ for details.
Campus Climate Challenge events:

GUSTER TO PLAY AT THE JAMMYS IN NYC
i think that our hectic touring schedules and grass-roots style of development once led people to consider us a "jam band" even though we can't improvise a lick and generally write three and a half minute pop songs. now that it's 2006 and we're secure with our pop identities, we're playing the 6th annual jammy awards on april 20th in new york city -- it's an awards show for jam bands that combines older legends with younger bands (we fall in the "younger bands" category even though we're in our thirties). we'll be a part of a two-song collaboration where we'll play one guster song (probably one from the new album), and one song backing up the legend we're paired with, and his talk box. we can't say who it is but some of you out there are feeling me...

LITTLE NEW YORK GIG
if you're a new yorker and you've been wanting to see us play a small venue like back-in-the-day, this is your chance. we're playing the 600-capacity hiro ballroom in manhattan next month and tickets go on sale today. that's like, a wetlands-sized venue. it's all a part of the green apple festival in new york which celebrates earth day. look how goddam green we are!

L.A. SHOW SCALPER-DICKHEADS
our los angeles shows this weekend have been sold out for a while, but scalper-dickhead-people bought out a bunch of the tickets and have been trying to peddle them on ebay for a month now. i'm just saying, no promises, but some tickets might become available at the box office on the day of the show or some scalper-dickheads might sell you tickets for face value. we just want our fans to be able to see us play our instruments. godspeed.
GUSTER ON A BOAT
i think it's a carnival cruise ship, just like the one where a fire broke out yesterday and that person died. but it'll be fun, we promise. we're joining the barenaked ladies for a trip to turks & caicos island in january 2007. we're the opening band. why are we telling you this now? there are only 200 cabins left on the cruise -- canadians make their plans well ahead of time. tell your travel agents:
january 15-19, 2007
departs from ft lauderdale, florida

JOE'S PLACE
we're still just in "promo mode" for this, but the first episode of our own making-of-the-album docu-comedy ("docu-comedy" is a term coined by our record label, not by any member of guster) is just a week or so away. to watch our new video promos check in at our docu-comedy home on the worldwide web:
AN IMPORTANT REMINDER:
this information comes from a drummer. you are much better off visiting www.guster.com for details or calling the venue for more information.
from the road, now
--g
We'll be debuting "Joe's Place" in a few weeks at guster.com -- this is our little sitcom that Dave Yonkman created from the hundreds of thousands of hours of studio footage he shot in the last year or so. (That's means he had to sift through like a million billion terabytes of information). In the meantime, we've posted some cute promos for the show on our website. You can follow this link to watch one:
The goal is to unveil a new episode every two weeks or so until our album comes out on June 20th. Those of you with video iPods or "computers" will be able to download them through the iTunes music store eventually. So like I said, our album comes out on June 20th! It's called "Ganging Up on the Sun" and these days I'm comfortable capitalizing the "G" in "Ganging," the "U" in "Up," and the "S" in "Sun," while leaving the "o" in "on" and the "t" in "the" lowercase. For now thats working for me. Here's the final track list, in case you're keeping score at home:
1. Lightning Rod
2. Satellite
3. Manifest Destiny
4. One Man Wrecking Machine
5. The Captain
6. The New Underground
7. Ruby Falls
8. C'mon
9. Empire State
10. Dear Valentine
11. The Beginning of the End
12. Hang On
Those songs, in that order, added up to a great record for us. If you notice a song missing that we've played live or mentioned in the studio journal, chances are it will get released in due time on a B-sides record. We have a lot of those. B-sides.
Besides that, today's an exciting day as our first official "single" was released. "One Man Wrecking Machine," batting clean-up on the album, will be the first song you might hear on the radio. Feel free to request it and see what happens. The album version has been uploaded to our myspace site: www.myspace.com/guster and the single version is available today at the iTunes music store. The album version has a 40 second masturbatory intro that the single version doesn't have. The single version has a wholesome electric guitar in the first verse that the album version doesn't have. There's also a b-side to the single, an up-tempo number called "The New Underground," over at iTunes.
And finally, as we often do when we've been off the road a little while... we're going back on the road. The tour dates have all been announced but never this neatly. Ticketing information and other details are waiting eagerly for you at guster.com -- and you can scroll to the bottom of the list to see who our opening bands will be on this tour...
Food drives:
Remember, this is all part of our "Campus Consciousness Tour" and the person who donates the most food at each show wins aftershow passes. "Rock for a Remedy" (capital "R's" lowercase "f" and "a") is in charge of that. Click here for more information: "http://www.reverbrock.org/campusconsciousness/whatyoucando.html
Panic on the streets of Omaha:
We're back to having a Nebraska show on April 3rd now, instead of April 4th. Yeah, sorry. The show's at the University of Nebraska and there are details about it on our website.
West coast here we come.
Much love,
g
This will be our last announcement of the year and it feels like a good time to reflect. It was a year spent recording lots of music, and releasing very little music. Next year will be different. We will be releasing albums and recording next to nothing, I presume. 2006 feels like a vintage Guster touring year.
In any event, a rough mix of "Manifest Destiny / Sorority Tears" is streaming from our My-Space site. I have never been to this My-Space place, I swear. But I know that it's bigger than Jesus and maybe even The Beatles. Here's the link to our page: http://www.myspace.com/guster
And after a couple days of technical issues, the iTunes store now has the track(s) on sale for 99 cents. Here's the link: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=95857313&s=143441&i=95857116
Thanks for another year of humbling support, loyalty, and encouragement. See you in oh six,
Your friends the Gusters
This week we again make the shift from reclusive studio band to open-to-the-public touring band, beginning where we like to begin in the warm welcoming bosom of the midwestern United States. Details about all the midwest shows are contained in this email, but there are also some new releases, charity auctions, and free frozen gigs to tell you about...
MANIFEST DESTINY / SORORITY TEARS
We're about a month away from releasing a digital single on iTunes... for 99 cents you'll be able to download "Manifest Destiny / Sorority Tears" -- a hybrid of two new songs for one low price. By putting a slash in the title and cross-fading the music, we got our record label to agree to pretend it was just one song. "Manifest Destiny" will be on the new album, and contains a swear word. Parents be advised.
THURSDAY 10/27 "WARM-UP SHOW" IN NASHVILLE:
It's a free block party at 1201 Villa Place to mark the opening of our management's new office in Nashville, where the recently-wedded Michael "Pasty" Corcoran will talk on the telephone, shuffle his fantasy sports line-ups, and otherwise live off the road. Originally conceived as a chance to "warm up" for our tour, our set time seems to be shrinking along with the temperature. When we go on at 8pm it might be 40 degrees outside and we'll be lucky to survive a 40-minute set.
Guster recommendation: Bundle up, bring a flask, but don't travel from out of town. The Thundergod may chicken out on this one.
ACOUSTIC SHOW SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN CHICAGO:
The plugged-in evening show at the Riviera is sold out, but you can still get into our daytime acoustic show at Schuba's through WXRT's "Live from Studio X." Information on how to win is available at www.wxrt.com

Oh, and beware, Illinois -- Tickets for the October 29th show at the Riv in Chicago go on sale this Saturday morning.
I will now paste in all the dates and ticket information just as it looked when Nicky, the latest addition to the Guster office (welcome Nicky), emailed it to me. Hopefully it won't show up as a bunch of <<&% gibberish %&>> to all you non-Mac-using types. I don't know shit about computers.

So between now and the start of the tour, we'll be at the weddings of Ryan Miller and Michael "Pasty" Corcoran (separate weddings)... as well as recording a new batch of 7 songs that we hope to introduce on this next tour. I know it's been a while since we've released music to you, but there's a lot forthcoming. You can't handle it all!
In the meantime here are two Guster-related side projects to know about...
1. "The LeeVees" featuring Adam Gardner (of Guster) and Dave Schneider (of the Zambonis) are releasing their first Jew-themed record "Hanukkah Rocks" on October 25th. Visit www.myspace.com/theleevees for Jew-themed information.
2. The first ever Rosenworcel-produced record just came out on Tuesday. "Sam Champion" is the name of the band, "Slow Rewind" is the name of the record, and "Noah Chernin" is the name of the former-Guster-rep-turned-indie-rock-idol who fronts the group. It took us a week to make the album and I love it. Visit www.samchampion.com to check it out.
Much love,
Bri & the Gusters
